The Only Three Jackets You Need

The Only Three Jackets You Need

1. The Navy Blazer

You know why a jacket always works in the office? Because it does virtually all the work for you. Put it on, and even if your shirt isn't perfectly pressed or your pants fit just a little funny, the jacket does the talking. And a navy blazer (with or without brass buttons) is the MVP of jackets. Keep it trim—with high armholes and slim sleeves that reveal just a bit of shirt cuff—and you'll want to wear it all week.

2. The Tweed Sport Coat

On a crisp fall day, there's really nothing better than a tweed jacket. Throw on a scarf with one and you don't even need a topcoat for your morning commute. The key to it looking cool (and not like something that Old Tom Morris would've worn at St. Andrews) is making sure that it's cut on the shorter side, like this one here.

3. Modern Man's Corduroy

Nope, you didn't read that wrong— real (business) men do wear corduroy jackets. But ones with narrow wales in a warm, muted tone. It makes for a more subtle jacket, with a distinct tactile quality you can just make out up close. It's the kind of detail that'll catch a person midconversation: "Hey, what kind of jacket is that?"
